Hi
i just receive my Leica CL
through i dont have a lens
but i am still trying to test it, i think i can still do it without a lens, right?

when i try to test the meter,
it seems when the light become dimmer ( i turn the dial to a faster speed)
the needle go up
but when it become brighter, i.e. a slower speed
the needle go down!!!

is it normal? 😕😕😕

and the camera was adjusted to feed on a 1.5v
so what battery can i put in?
the slot looks to big for LR44... 🙁

thanks very much

The battery should be PR9 (aka PX-625A) if I recall correctly. I do not think you can test it without a lens. When you do have a lens attached, make sure that the shutter is cocked and pulled away from the body, or else the meter will not register.

The meter on the CL works backwards (or upside down) from what you'd expect. I don't know why, but it does. Also, I think that changing the shutter speed will effect the meter needle even if the meter is not reading. You're probably going to have to get a lens before you know if the meter is working.

And something else to keep in mind, the lowest light that the meter will read is not as low as you would think. But even if the meter isn't picking up enough light to move, changing the shutter speed will still cause it to move. I thought the meter in my CL was broken, but then I realized that there just wasn't enough light.

The CL is, IMO, a great camera and a joy to use. The meter is a little wonky, and you'll probably want a hand held meter for lower light shooting, but you will probably reall enjoy the camera.

I use mine with a CV 21mm a lot and I love that combo.

Hope you enjoy yours.

thanks very much for all of your answer

i am so unhappy about the lens...
i paid for it last week and the vendor just told me they posted yesterday!!!
they took a week to process it!!!
and they said it will take 15-25 days for it to arrive

althrough it is just a jupiter-8...
but it is my 1st lens...

and i think i will only have a month to test the camera...
so i dont really have time to test it... 🙁

If you have a local camera shop that sells M-mount lenses, they may allow you to check your CL with one of their demo lenses.

of course
i have also ordered an adaptor 😛
i assume it should arrive before the lens now... 🙁

but i cant think of any place that can help... 🙁

juno_lau,

If you're interested I have an Industar-22 you can have for the cost of postage, it has a front lens with some scratch marks which can cause bright highlights to "glow", but can produce some nice results. It will certainly let you know if your CL is working.

Here's one taken with it:
