Is there a place where I can see a diagram of how the metering sensitivity is distributed in a M6 classic? I know since it is a RF is has to be a at least a bit different than an SLR. I assume it is center-weighted.

Cheers,

Have a look at the shutter cloth, and the white spot on it. If you project that into the finder, this is your metering
area.

Roland.

Except that the frame lines in the finder only correspond to the entire negative area when the lens is at its close focus point. At infinity for example, with 50mm and longer lenses the frames are good for only about 80% so it's necessary to imagine the metering circle somewhat larger in the frame. The standard rule of thumb is the imagined circle should be a diameter equal to 2/3 the height of the short side of the frameline. Sounds complicated but after a few rolls it becomes second nature.

Thanks for all the replies. While I often use a hand held meter, it is good to know the dynamics of the internal one.

It's a bit interesting. I generally just take it to be (especially on an M6 with a 35), a bit bigger than the framelines that come along with the 35, which would be the 90. Uhh.. if I have that wrong, I reserve the right to feel embarassed.

Anyways.. read somewhere on these forums, or maybe photo.net, that a good thing to do is just to get a flashlight with a narrow beam and shine it on a wall. You then move the camera around to find the edges of the spot.
