Greetings all,

I have a general sort of question regarding the overall performance and repairabilty of the little accesory shoe mounted meters, such as the Leica-meter for LTM, and various knock-offs.

1) How accurate were these little guys back when they were new ?

2) Most that are floating around seem to be "dead"... is there hope for disassembling and looking for oxidized contacts, or are they lost-causes if "dead" ?

I have two meters that I'm pondering, one is a Leicameter 2, the other a Koden (looks very similar, made by Nihon Koden)... both "are not completely dead, which means they're still a little bit alive", to quote Miracle-Max from "Princess Bride"...

I am feeling quite elated at having revived the meter in my Contax IIIa BD, thanks to some tips from Zeiss-Fan, and am wondering if I can be so lucky with the little camera-top meters...

What say ye ?

Leicameter

I bought one not too long ago for my M3. I had to look around a bit, finally found an MR4 at a Photo Fair. It worked when I tested it at the fair, and the shots I took came out fine. I then replaced the battery and zeroed it (you can find the instruction manual on the web) and now it works even better. I think you can find them, but it is probably much safer to see it in person so you can be sure it is working. Many people also seem to like the Voightlander clip-on meter.
