Mexico City has been discussed before but I´d have two a bit more spesific questions.

Where to buy some not your-average-type-of film?

Where to find used photography books? Or new ones is also interesting.

Thanks a lot!

There is an excellent new photography bookstore at the just as excellent photography museum, Centro de la Imagen, at Plaza de la Ciadudela on Balderas. There may be some remainders there. Don't pass on that museum.

In the stalls along Balderas near the museum you can get back copies of my favourite Mexican photography magazine, Cuarto Oscuro, for about $1 each. I haven't shopped for used books there, so can't answer that part. The Sanborns in the House of Tiles also has some new photography books.

I'm trying to remember where I bought some refrigerated Fuji color 120 film a few years ago. Something like AAA on Articulos, as I recall. There are a bunch of camera stores on Doncales near the cathedral; but I didn't look for film there. I generally stay in the Centro Historico; the better photography stores are located in wealthier neighbourhoods. I found AAA or whatever in the yellow pages.

Not AAA, but Camera 1. I found my notes from nine year old posting, I think on photo.net:
"In Mexico City, the best place I found close to the Centro Historico to buy 120 film was a store called Camera #1. The address is Articulo 123 9-B, just west of Lazaro Cardenas, and a few blocks south of Belles Artes and the Alameda. The film was refrigerated (not an automatic given from what I saw in other stores). I bought Reala and NPH. I didn't check out what was available from the Kodak fridge."
Later, I learned it was a well-respected chain with branches in Condesa and other trendier parts of Mexico City.

sevres babylone, thank you very much for your kind help! I'm leaving tomorrow and thought I have more film than I did and can't really buy from here at home as they're closed for New Year. So your tips are very important! Thanks!

Post back if it is still there, please? (when you get a chance).

I was through mexico city twice in the last year and expect to go back again a couple of times in the near future. If there is a place to buy film, I would very much like to know it.

Hi,

sorry it took such a long time to write back an answer on the film buying experience.

I stumbled upon Calle Donceles (one block north from the Cathedral) right away and it was was full of lower budget camera stores. Bought some Fuji REala, settled for that and unfortunatly I don't have any better recommandations for future travellers.

Mexico City is a great experience!
