Mexico - Guadalajara [GDL]

For those who have traveled to Mexico, did you bring your film or make a purchase while you were there? Developing done locally or you developed when you returned home? What about when you entered Mexican Customs, any issues bringing your camera and lenses and film? I have a trip to Guadalajara in March, and thinking about bringing my F4 and F3 and two lenses and some black and white and slide, or should I just keep it to one body and two lenses? Any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

I have traveled to Mexico 15 or 16 times. I have never had problems bringing in two camera bodies (as recently as November). It's been a while since I've traveled with film only, so I can't remember the most I ever brought in at one time, but I believe it would have been at least 10 rolls.

I don't know the current situation regarding film availability. Years ago I was able to buy NPH in Mexico City, Reala in a couple of different places, and Tri-X, also in a couple of places. But it would have been 8 years ago at least, and I expect the situation has changed there as it has in Canada.

I was in Cancun and Cabo earlier this year by plane and I just got back from a 10 day cruise all over Mexico.
I brought my D700 and Zeiss Ikon on the first two trips and the D700, F3/T and FM2 on the cruise.
I brought along tons of film, both color and B&W and kept them in a X-Ray bag.
I never had any issues with anything and security had no issues hand checking the film camera whenever I asked.
Oh yes I also never ended up using the FM2 since I kept B&W only in the F3 and used the DSLR for the color.
I brought all the film home and I'm in the process of developing it all now that Im back.

I have never had any issues taking my equipment and film in and out of Mexico across both land and air borders. The airport staff always appeared especially helpful and actually rather interested in the ancient cameras used by maniacs such as myself.

I can't say I ever saw any 120 film for sale in Mexico, but I brought enough to last anyway. I think 35mm is much easier to source. I would always advise taking less hardware... Because it's bloody annoying hauling it about.

No issue what so ever in Mexico. Customs is not interested in cameras, digital or film. Everyone brings cameras to Mexico. If you did not bring one you would be the exception.

You can find kodak 100 at Sams on a pack with 5 rolls/36 exp. by usd 9.20 cheap film, and if You can find a fuji dealer they offer 5 rolls iso 200 for usd 1.1 each....good luck

i've been able to find a variety of 35mm kodak and fuji 100 & 400 iso in large major cities and in a good number of small shops in the yucatan peninsula. there's always the airport gift/snack/news/etc shops. not being much of a transparency film user i cannot be sure about it's availability.

i was able to buy ilford fp4 & hp5 in san miguel de allende - cannot remember the name of the small photography shop - and imagine you could find it also in queretero.

film is light & doesn't take up much space, soooo i carry more than i think i'll need - usually. sometimes the hunt for film can be fun and get you out and about a little more.
