Meyer Optik Goerlitz fraud!

as far as I know, the "final" assembly is made in Germany, how "final" I dont know but I'm sure its not 100% as there are many videos from their factory in Portugal doing most of the job. All they need to use the label "made in Germany" is to finish the product in Germany.

That's not the same as what Meyer Optik was doing.

Leica may be completing the final assembly of its cameras in Germany. From parts that it has specced uniquely for its cameras, and partially assembled in its own factory (ies?) elsewhere (Portugal?). It is still a Leica design and build through and through. It wasn't a Chinese camera rebadged as a Leica.

The Meyer Optik lenses in question were just relabelled and repackaged Mitakon lenses.

My old Nikon D850 was made in Thailand. But it is still 100% Nikon not a rebadged Chinese (country doesn't matter here) camera.
The Nikon DF I used was labelled made in Japan. But I am not sure where the bits came from that it was assembled from, especially seeing that some of it such as the back cover, came from the Nikon D610. The D610 is made in Thailand. But it is still 100% Nikon because there isn't another Chinese version of this camera that they just relabelled.

See where I am going with this?

seriously, grab the whole line of Leica products and you will see where I'm going with this. Panasonic products rebadged by Leica? hello?
If the Meyer Optik lenses were finished in Germany, they can use the label "made in germany". Either you like it or not, thats the Law in Germany, along with "Be nice to mommy", "Don't talk to commies" and "Eat kosher salamis" :D

Rrebadged Panasonic Leica cameras dont say "Made in Germany", though.

Someone posted a brief conversation with the Mitakon/Zhongyi owner on Chinese social media, who stated that the guys behind the Meyer Optik scheme did inquired them about outsourcing but didn't reach a conclusion. They were aware that these people then bought Mitakon lenses off the shelf, took the innards and literally planted them into new barrels...in Germany, perhaps. Which somehow explains the funky look of the Meyer lenses.

If it's true then it's not even rebadged Chinese staff. "Repackaged" for sure.

The odd or funny part of this Meyer Optik thing is that by the 1960s and 1970s Hugo Meyer lenses, later badged as Pentacon lenses, were budget DDR made lenses for those who could not afford Takumar or Fujinon M42 lenses.
