I think it sounds like an interesting topic, and I also think you should post the pictures in the thread, because there's simply no way I'm going to click through to your blog.

Great series Mark. The town looks eerie and quite sad looking. A series on the people who live and work there would be good but it doesn't sound like you'd be welcomed.

Interesting background information and great images. Are you also shooting during the day?

No problem Jockos. The photos are a set and are meant to be viewed together with the words. I'm not going to post that many stray photos in a thread here so I guess you won't see them.
I just don't understand what is so hard in making a single click with your mouse to see how I put the photos together into a gallery/webpage, but I guess everyone has a lot of pressure in their life (I sure do!) and have to cut down what they are capable of doing. Thanks for telling me that you weren't going to look at my photos for this reason.
Best!

Thanks Paul! For the most part, the town is very friendly when we've been there, but there is definitely a dark edge that gets fueled by alcohol and meth! I'm not a people photographer, but I have shot some photos of locals. Maybe when I get more I'll put them together... but people shooting is really not my focus. I like spaces where you can place yourself emotionally without it being fixed by actual people.

Thanks Kwesi! I've shot there during the day, but mostly interiors.

The interiors could provide a counterpoint- sort of a peek inside the shell. Especially if there are no people.
I agree that your writing is an integral part of the "story". I could hear the bar voices as i looked at the exteriors.
Thanks again for posting. Loved your Playa images

Thanks for the feedback Kwei!!! I kind of view all of these pieces as part of a larger project... perhaps to put together in a book further down the road.

PS I did a new set of playa images from a different location... I'll get them together when I have the time... should be another nice, but different, set.

Thanks for posting. My reaction to the street scenes is quite different. There is something appealing about the clean spartan 'cityscape' you've captured, while the effective use of shadow and juxtaposition create a sense of something vaguely ominous and threatening.

The problem is that some folk just post links to improve traffic to their blog or site. That is the reason I also don't click - usually it is lousy photography, sometimes it has viruses. Since you replied very politely, I decided to click through. Good pictures, I have to say, but I just don't understand why you can't give us a sample (a teaser if you will) before we're asked to click through.
I just wanted to explain why it annoys some of us if you just post a link.
