UPDATE: (also repeated farther down) -- I've heard from someone who's planning to come to Omaha anyway and is willing to pick up the items, so he gets "pick of the litter" as noted in my original post.

If there are any items he doesn't want, I'll repost later and this time include pack-and-ship charges, so you guys will know what you'd be getting into.

Thanks for everyone's interest!

====Original message follows=====================

Maybe I'm breaking a rule by not making this a classified ad, but I didn't like the idea of having to pay for an ad in order to give stuff away!

Here's the deal: I've got some darkroom equipment which I now have to admit to myself that I'm never going to use again, and having it sitting around is making me depressed, so I'd like to get it out of my sight and into the hands of someone actually committed enough to uphold the flame of traditional wet-process photography. I was keeping it to give to an RFFer who had expressed interest in having it, but that has fallen through. So, rather than hassling with eBay, I'd like to give it away to someone else from RFF.

Before I list the items, here's the catch: The equipment is free, but YOU PAY SHIPPING, including the cost of buying a box and packing material. And some of it is heavy!

Because of this, I will give top priority to anyone willing to come to Omaha, Nebraska and pick it up; second priority would go to people willing to pay for a pack-and-ship service to handle it. Beyond that I don't know -- I'm not really looking to expend a lot of time, money, or effort for the privilege of giving away stuff, if you know what I mean...

Anyway, if you're interested in any of this, PM me and we'll see if we can work out particulars. Here's what I've got:

Enlarger setup: Omega B 66 XL (extended column model) with Chromega B dichroic head (use for color printing or dial in variable-contrast filter equivalents.) Includes enlarger, head, power supply, baseboard, negative carriers for 35mm and 6 x 6 cm negatives, two lensboards, and 50mm f/4 and 75mm f/4 EL-Nikkor lenses, 4-blade Saunders 11x14 easel. Everything is fully working and in good condition. Heavy and bulky!

Nova slot processor: Vertical "slot type" processor that will handle paper up to 11x14 (actually a bit larger.) This is the older model that uses the pin-type clips (two included.)It has three temperature-controlled slots and one uncontrolled slot set up for use as a washer; I plugged the drain outlet and used it for a final water rinse. Some normal discoloration on the tray dividers, but basically clean and in good usable condition. Heavy!

Archival print washer: Dunwright & Vogel "Prowash." This is a vertical-type washer with acrylic compartments. Handles up to 11x14 prints; includes inlet and drain hoses. Some minor mineral staining on the acrylic, but basically good condition. VERY heavy!

And not really a darkroom item, but...

Telex Caramate 4000 slide viewer/projector: This is one of those roughly cube-shaped units that takes a Carousel slide tray on top and lets you either view the slides on an internal screen, or open a door and project them onto a wall. The 4000 is the non-autofocus model. Includes a wired remote control with built-in advance timer. Also includes a Kodak stack loader for viewing stacks of slides not in trays. Slight wear, but in good working condition. Somewhat bulky and fragile.

Sorry if I sound gloomy and/or bellicose about this, but it's emotionally expensive for me to confront the fact that this part of my photography life is over, and I just want to get these items out of my life with as little effort or guilt as possible. As I said, PM if you're interested and willing to pick up or pay packing/shipping! Apologies in advance if this posting doesn't belong here.

Thanks for all the responses -- and for the encouragement, Jan. I'm not giving up shooting, just have to give up doing my own wet printing. (If I need a wet print occasionally, the best custom photo lab in town is two blocks from my house, and he probably needs the business to help stand off the digital onslaught...)

Glad to hear that you will still have a camera in your hands! I have taken to trading off the wet darkroom for large scans and then retouching in PS. The final image is burned to a CD and taken to a lab for printing. So far there are losses and gains with this but the gains are worth the trade. I'd still like a wet darkroom but the time, materials, space and chemical disposal issues all pushed me toward the "digital darkroom"

Don't forget to upload , you've been very selective with your gallery, but it is 'quality' material.
