Point fully taken about 'game changer', but for the highlighted portion, I don't think it's got much appeal to M9 owners. Yes, it's smaller and cheaper, but it also has a fixed, not-very-fast lens and an APS-C sensor. I'd quite like one, but I very strongly suspect that like every other camera I've ever considered as an alternative to my Leicas, it just wouldn't get used very much. I don't use my Retina IIa or my Rollei AF35M much as an alternative to film Leicas, and I'd be surprised if I used an X100 much as an alternative to the M9. Or even the M8.

Its not a M9 replacement, but one of these in a bag not only costs very little, but it weighs very little as well. X100 is the perfect combination of a p&s and a more serious RF-type camera, something which I'm sure a lot of serious photographers who mostly shoot at 35mm will find hard to ignore. M9 users will carry one of these as back up.

X100 release is like the ipod moment for still photography, from now on nothing will be the same.
 
If the X100 performs well with high ISO shots and the image quality is excellent, why would somebody care that it "only" has an APS-C sensor? You can't change the lens so it doesn't matter what size the sensor really is.
From what I've seen so far, the X100 outperforms the M9 in high ISO image quality. And that's what really matters to me as todays cameras all perform well in low ISOs.

If the high ISO perfomance of the X100 is great (as it looks like with the shoots I've seen) the F2 lens on it is more then sufficient and can compensate for a faster lens in 90% of the time.

It has been proven over many decades that the 35mm lens is an excellent choice for an "universal walk around camera". I think everybody buying the X100 is very well aware of the limitations arising from this.

I have to say I was very skeptical about the X100 for a long time. But the recent weeks and samples here on this forum won me over. I'm buying one as a backup and fun, small walk-around camera for my D700.

Bravo Fuji for showing that it is possible to produce a "niche market" camera for a decent price! A feat many Leica people said, is not possible.

... I would not say that the X100 costs "very little" ... 😱 It costs 3 times what I paid in total for a Leica IIIb, new covering and a Leitz lens (35mm or 50mm).
 
Not an alternative to an M8 or M9, right enough, but all the little pixels in all the X1's must be crying in their beer

Not an M9 replacement, only a supplement. I think people are more afraid of the fact that if it succeeds there will be more of these digital rangefinder-like cameras out there, many more, and some may have interchangeable lenses. Might make one who has 25k in a Leica system a bit unnerved to kow they would be those who take their cakes from them in the same way those of use with 15k in film body SLRs felt when the first Digital Rebel came out. Now, I'm just sitting here waiting for my ship notice to arrive for my X100.

In case you're shooting color, its very cheap. A body and a 35mm f2 lens with unlimited film supply, not to mention ISO 3200 and ISO 6400.

In case you're shooting B&W and using a fixed lens RF camera, then you're still ok.

For people in the UK - as the OP says, a couple of sellers have got a first batch of cameras in, looks only like a dozen or so per place, most of which have gone out in pre-orders. I managed to find one at LCE and it's coming tomorrow, which is awesome! So might be worth a ring around if anyone is super keen?
 
Must try to talk Johan over to spare me a Hexar AF or two when X100-generation will rush to sell them cheaply. In the meanwhile I'll enjoy the X100 by watching your test photos.

There's only one drawback that I can see from the sites i've looked at.
Seems to be a lot of in camera NR.
Oh and you can't use your Summilux's and Summicron's!

Not really. If I thought an X100 would be better for me than an M9 and interchangeable lenses I could (and would, like a shot) sell my Thambar and buy two X100s. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'take their cakes from them'. All I've cared about for years is getting pictures I like with cameras I like using -- which has probably harmed my career, as I could almost certainly sell more articles and books if I could get more excited about DSLRs, or indeed, before that, about oversize plastic autofocus film SLRs.
