Mini M secret revealed: Max aperture is f1!

I like this type of camera but the lens is too slow. I have the Canon G1X with APS-C size sensor, a 28-112mm lens 2.8-5.8 and IS (very effective). The mini Leica is even heavier than my Canon.
Meh...

same here. as G1X user, after rumors about Mini M started to get concrete, could not help smiling bit... sensor is not exactly APS-C, but not far.

But at least the Leicasonics are same cameras in a different wrapping. I am a happy owner of one of them (the Digilux 2). With the X-E1 you get a faster lens with VR and you can buy one or two primes as well.

If you want specs, you can go right to Leica's site and download the various PDFs, including the owner's guide, a tech spec sheet and the brochure. No need to rely on a dopey rumors site.

This thread was started four days ago, prior to the X Vario's official release.

The other parts of the specs are ok. Only the lens is slow. I like how the camera looks.

For me, slow lens + bad high ISO performance = worthless camera.

Everyone's shooting style is different, and if you shoot outdoors in direct noon-day sunshine, I'm sure the X-Vario would work just fine.

Best,

Based on the DxO Mark data for the M240' there's reason to assume the CMOSIS APS-C sensor will out perform many current APS-C sensors.

If Leica's fixed-lens' T Function is well above average, then the silly minimum f stop, ( 6.4 at 46 mm ) could deliver as much light as f 5.6 lens with a much lower T Function. This could save a stop of dynamic range as ISO could be a stop lower.

Those who like to whine and bitch are disrespectful not only to the good folks at Leica but those like me who enjoy their products and there are a lot of folks like that on RFF.

I currently have 1 Leica body, 1 Leica lens, and a pair of Leica binoculars. I have had other Leica stuff in the past.

Are you suggesting, then, that when I criticize Leica (which I have been known to do, sometimes harshly), that is self-abuse? Is it, at least, fun self-abuse?

If I use my Sony NEX-3 with an adapter for Nikon or Leica glass, the aperture is recorded as '1' in the EXIF. Obvioulsy the adapters are 'dumb', there is no electronic connection/communication between lens and body, hence this effect.

this. i have this happen as well with nonelectrical adapters
