If it's screwed in as far as it will go, then yes it will stick out like that. Shouldn't worry about the aesthetics too much as it will help with the picture taking

This isn't a Bessa, but it shows a generic soft-release on the QL17. At first I thought it stuck out far, but after a few rolls it felt quite natural, and strange without it.

(The photo is one of my "before" for the thing I'm writing up on recalibrating this thing, if anybody wonders why the tools are all there.) 🙂

I don't know where that particular one came from, I got it from a co-worker who got it from somebody else. It's not marked with any brand, and came in a plastic ziplock bag with no markings or instructions.

I actually saw a spanner on the peg-board at a local camera shop (Rockbrook Photo) a couple months ago. I think this was part of the Promaster line.
