I picked up a box of camera gear I had reserved at my local junktique place until payday rolled around. The Minolta 70-210 "Beercan" turned out to have fungus. It also had a light baffle ring laying around loose inside the front part of the lens.

I opened it up this afternoon, figuring it would be a goner, but managed to clean out most of the growth. I didn't attempt to remove the shifting element block, hoping that a bit of sunlight might take care of the rest of the fungus.

Anyway, I couldn't for the life of me figure out just where that baffle ring goes, though I suspect it belongs up in the front element group housing.

Is there a groove it slips into towards the rear of the housing, or does it get shoved all the way up behind the elements?

It took me a while to figure out how to get the front element group back in and collimated, but it seemed pretty simple once I did. No fears on opening it up again.
