Minolta Autocord shutter setting issue

Hey everyone,

I bought a recently CLA’d Minolta Autocord (export) and it appears to function well aside from one issue. When setting the shutter speed to 1/10 it fires as if it was set for 1/100,1/250 or 1/500 (tough to tell). I’ve verified this by recording the shutter sounds and seeing that the waveform resembles much faster speeds. The other slower speeds (1, 1/2, 1/5, 1/25) seem to be working fine.

Does anyone have any ideas of why just this speed would be giving me trouble? It’s not the end of the word since I can avoid that speed until I can get it checked out. However I paid a little more for what I thought was a fully functioning camera from a reputable local seller on eBay so it’d be nice to know what might be going on. I haven’t been able to find any info on this particular issue on the net.

Thanks for any input!

Seikosha shutter?

There are two main settings for a shutter. The 1 second timing and the 1/10 timing. On most Compur shutters, you move the escapement to to get 1 second. One end of the escapement can slide while the other is stable and is the pivot point. Then you bend a pin to set 1/10 (or 1/15 on later models).

On the Seikosha, both end of the escapement moves. It can be tricky to get the 1/10 to dial in because it isn't just bending a part. You need to keep tweaking the escapement, sometimes from both ends.

Or you start swedging or filing the speed dial itself, another matter and more often used to fine tuning the in-between times.

You probably won't find info on it because it is both rather obtuse and because it is a basic part of adjusting shutters so it's just done and forgotten?

Have you talked to the seller? It is an adjustment issue, so they should handle it if you paid good money.
