Minolta Dual Scan III problem

Hi there

I've recently bought this scanner for a good price but seems to be there is some hardware problem. The scanner doesn't "eat" the film strip automatically... any ideas?

PS: I'm using VueScan and recognized the scanner perfectly, even the calibration function.

Don't mean to ask the obvious, but you've pushed the carrier in sufficiently for it to be engaged and fed?

Or are you referring to it not advancing during batch scanning?

Agree with Johnwolf. You need to push against a little bit of resistance and if I'm recalling correctly, it will finally take the film holder from you.

All of this with it turned on and vueScan running...

That's right. Vuescan will prompt you to insert the carrier. Then do until the scanner grabs it.

The OS or the scanner software have nothing to do with this, you just push the film carrier into the scanner until the film carrier gets caught and then you ear the scanner motor buzzing and the film carrier moves a little bit towards the inside of the scanner. This is some hardware job only.

Once done you go to your scanner software and you command the scanner to scan whatever frame you want, as standalone or batch.

If nothing happens when you push the film carrier inside the scanner, you're probably not doing it the proper way.

It's weird... nothing happens. I click on Scan and try to introduce the film strip but it doesn't goes inside automatically.

You musn't do anything with the software before you introduce the film carrier into the scanner.

Once and again :

- turn your computer on
- plug the scanner
- turn the scanner on with its front door closed
- turn the scanner software on
- the scanner will initialize and the software will recognize it
- open the scanner front door and click it on the 35mm film position
- insert the film carrier inside the scanner until you hear a click, the scanner motor will sound and the carrier will move towards the inside of the scanner for about 1cm then stop
- use the scanner software to drive the scanner.

That's what I'm doing, even I installed XP under parallels, with original software, has been recognized but... same.

What do You mean with "click it on the 35mm film position"?

PS: There is no "clic" sound.

The scanner door has two positions once open : 35mm and APS.

If you open it in full, that's for APS film, and so the 35mm film strip carrier won't be detected once you insert it.

Also, make sure you insert the film strip carrier the proper way. Look for arrows engraved on the black plastic.

Nobody will explain you how to use this excellent scanner better than the OEM owner's manual, which was written to be read. You can download it in Spanish.

Funny, all these years I never realized there were two door positions but never had a problem. Glad it worked out. Look forward to seeing your scans with it.

I use Vuescan with Minolta Multipro. Couple times I had problems with the scanner I did restore (PC-Windows XP), and problems disappeared. I'm not sure how to do it on Mac.
