Minolta Hi-Matic E first roll...

As I look at your photos, it appears as though there is a broken wire on the left hand side of the attached red wires. If that's the case, clean the wire end and blob of solder on the camera where it's to attach and carefully re solder. Peter
ps: I have on of those beauties

oops smaller pics posted

Thanks. I see the problem too, right next to the tripod socket. Use a small wattage iron (15w) to re-solder that. Thin silver solder is the best for the job if there isn't enough there to hold properly. You don't need to leave the iron on the spot for long, normally just a touch will do, but use something to hold the wire in place so it doesn't spring back before the solder cools.

hmmm so I opened the camera again and poked around and the red wire is not loose. So I'm not sure if this is the issue. Is there anyway to save my film? I took 6 photos. Anyway to remove it in a dark room and put it in a different camera?
If anyone would be so kind and post a photo of how the wires should look like from their Hi Matic E?
thanks

It may not be completely loose, but it does seem badly corroded. I would still follow the advice posted. No deed to open the camera in a dark room to retrieve the film, press the film release button and rewind as usual, taking care to stop when you feel the film release from the takeup spool.

I believe I'd mentioned the wire beside the red wire connection. In the photos there's what appears to be the broken wire end (with a black covering) on the left of the red wire connection.
Good Luck ...Peter

Well I'm wondering if there is anyway to rewind it but not all the way and then reuse it in another camera?

There is no other wire besides the red wire. But maybe there should be a second wire? In this post it seems as if another wire is missing and should connect where I drew the blue arrows.

Which rangefinders don't depend on non-common batteries?

Just some example on top of my head:

Olympus
- 35 RC
- 35 RD
- 35 SP

Konica S2

Minolta Hi-matic 7s, 7sII

Yashica Lynx

Ricoh 500 series

And a bunch of older ones that has not batteries at all.

I guess it will be very hard to determine how much is out of the roll to be sure it leaves a bit of film so I can use it in my S2. And then once I have it in my S2, how would I know how far to roll it so it's about 6 photos in to continue the rest of the roll? I'll put in a negative into the S2 and determine how many turns I need to get to about 6 photos.

It wont be hard at all, you will be able to feel when resistance stops. Determining where to start will be best guess, advance about eight or nine shots (firing the shutter with the lens cap on) before taking a new photo.

Unfortunately even when the camera worked there is something wrong with it as I found in the last roll of film. I'm going to keep it in my non working camera collection; I only paid $30 so not a big loss. I recently bought a Konica S2 in great shape where everything works so will shoot a roll with it next. thanks for all the help with the Minolta

Sebino, I finally got around to opening up my E, and taking a couple of photos.

The black wire goes to the middle terminal, and the red wire to the corner terminal. There is a small (yellow, I think) wire on a terminal just behind and between the red and black wires, and a small blue wire also on the same terminal as the black one. Could be the Battery Check circuit.

Your loose red wire may go on the left stud above the circuit board (blue arrow in your photo). A black wire goes on the right stud. These are the battery post connections from the well.

Looks like someone tried to replace a wire, and got things all messed up. Hope you can get it working again.
