This is repairing a minolta Hi matic 7s. The rangefinder only covers/travels a certain focussing range. But fails to do the same for the short range. There is little documentation/messages on this particular camera, but i have nailed it down to the issue old grease in the rangefinder assembly.
I think at least, so wanted to hear your opinion.
In the picture CAMERA VIEW (picutre 4) that is the linkage of the lens focus (through movement of the helical) that moves forward for closer distances and moves to the back of the camera for longer distance and infinity.
It links to the range finder assembly when looking at the range finder assembly form the bottom side thorugh the marked green linkage arm. So when the camera helical linkage moves back and forth, that moves the rangefinder and moves the front lens (and the parallax correction lines plate).

I figured out that it is easy to follow the backward movement of the hleical linkage arm, but not the front movement, the close distance. And i tihnk it is old grease looking at the black screw (red arrow in bottom view picture). That screw is the pivot point on which the assembly turns.
So the questions:
would you recommend cleaning the underside of the rangefinder assembly to allow it to move more freely ?
with what (isopropyl ? or lighter fluid ?)
I suppose it needs to be regreased to allow smoother movement. What grease is recommended ? OR would Nye-oil be good too ?
Last but not least: i have to realign the rangefinder. I think the screm (top view) circled in red, is the horizontal alignment. But maybe not.
And where is the vertical slignment ?
