Which budget 28 should I go with? 2.8 or 3.5? Or go with the 35 2.8?
I have all three of those MC Rokkors, they are worthy of purchase and use.
Just don't pay much and make sure you get a good one. I also have the F2.5 28mm MC and it tends to be more expensive (but not always).
For available low light I like the 35mm F1.8 MC Rokkor. These are all great lenses to shoot with and use. Minolta did not really make a bad lens that I am aware of. The 35mm F1.8 replaced the Canon 35mm F2 RF, and the 35mm F2 Leitz Summicron. The 35mm F2.8 MC replaced my Leitz Summaron. Now I don't miss them at all.
John Titterington has overhauled my MC Rokkors (average price $20-$30) and only takes a few days which is good as it gets.
The front and rear groups simply unscrew so are easy to clean if you are handy, but I won't mess with lens helicals and blades. I let John do that.
I would say whether you buy MC or MD will depend on what camera you are going to use it on, and what you can find cheaply. I have paid as little as $5 for nice Rokkors at swap meets, and for sticky lenses in camera shops. If they are sticky I send them to John. I send four or five lenses at a time to save on shipping. Imagine getting a Leica lens overhauled for $20 and getting it back to you in a few days! I got tired of spending megabucks for equipment and repairs, so I went back to Minolta which are part of my photo roots. Then I sold everything and put the money back in the bank. And now I can afford their exotic rare items as well which fuels my collector side.
