Minolta MC 50mm f1.4 Rokkor PG

I found out a few months ago that my old Minolta X-370 still works so I've been bargain shopping. I just received this 50mm lens from KEH. It was a BGN coded lens and per the usual reports, it looks great. Glass is perfect...seriously 100% perfect...not a speck of dust. There are some scratchs on the barrel, but who cares. I can't wait to give it a try. Anyone here use this lens? Am I in for a treat?

I'm thinking seriously about getting a 24mm f2.8 Rokkor. I was going to buy a 25/4 Snapshot Skopar for my Bessa, but the Rokkor is half the price and everyone seems to think it's great. I don't suppose anyone here has used both?

Yes, I have both.
Cutting-edge optics from the 70's-80's.
I prefer the older ones, they are "heavy metal".
The 24mm came later. Most all are MD.

MD W Rokker 24 is a shared designed with floating elements also used by Leica for the R series. It is a great lens. I don't think it is much less expensive that the CV 25 though. The CV is pretty inexpensive.

Since we are talking Rokkor Files, give in and get the W Rokkor X MD 35/1.8 too.

My kit is 24, 35, MC 58/1.2, 85/1.7, 100/2.5 and then I have a 135, 200 and 300 too of some sort, but the 24, 35, 58 and one of the short teles is my main kit.

I have thought about the 35 BUT its third in line for adding to my Minolta kit. want to get a SRT Super (WITH mirror l/up) first followed by an 85!

Plus I already have the 35/2.5 Scopar on my Bessa R!

take with the 50/1.4 Rokkor-MC - beautiful lens and it's optically and mechanically superb... as good as any modern 50/1.4...

I have the 50mm rokkor-x, they are all great lenses, there is something about the minolta lenses that always put them apart from the rest of the crowd. You are in for a treat indeed.

Oh and that picture of a dog, thats great!

I've owned most of the Rokkor-X lens since the 60's including 2 50mm f/1.4 MC lens.

You will be pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality of this lens..

The MD lenses were redesigned to be used on the XD-11, X-700 and cameras which had the fully automatic mode. MC lenses could be used on these bodies in manual and Aperture Priority mode, but not shutter priority and full auto. In many cases the optical formulas were unchanged, though over time there were some changes. Generally as the time went on Minolta went to building lenses with plastic components away from the heavy metal of the early MC line. Also, throughout their run, Minolta made many improvements to the coatings in their lenses, so an MD lens would have different/better coatings than an early MC lens.
