Minolta SRT 101 mirror problem

One meter issue that is common to this model is the needle can stick to the foam bumpers in many srT's. I've brought many srT meters back to life by removing these pieces of foam which were never needed in the first place..

I'll second that. If the meter needle in an SRT is stuck to the top and will not move at all with a fresh battery, as long as the wiring and battery chamber aren't too crusty there's a pretty good chance the needle is stuck to the bumper foam. I've got one or two going myself as has been described by Colyn.

The replacement 101 arrived today, with the 1.4/58 attached. Even came with a Minolta UV filter. The ERC and strap are in very good shape. The lens is clean, and the camera exterior also. There are foam crumbs in the mirror area, so those will have to be cleaned out, along with installing new seals. Mirror and shutter work fine. The metering system came to life after installing a new battery, and working the On-Off-BC switch back and forth, so no stuck needle.

The camera appears to have had little use, being supplied with it's owners manual, and the manufacturers tag: "Minolta - the name quality made famous".

I can now feel okay about taking the other 101 apart to see if I can fix the mirror latch problem, but if it's a broken spring, then I don't have replacements. My previous attempts to make springs have not been very good.

Now to fire off an e-mail to Jon Goodman for a seal kit.
