I recently started using my old Minox EL again. It was bought new in about 1978 but hadn't been used for many years. I've put a couple of rolls of film through it but now the shutter has stopped working. I think I read here that this is a common problem with these cameras. Is it worthwhile trying to get the shutter repaired or would I be better off putting the money towards another camera, maybe an XA?

cheers,

Did you try putting a fresh battery in it? I heard somewhere that sometimes the battery will be strong enough to light the meter but not fire the shutter. I think DAG will fix it, and it may just be that the shutter contacts need cleaning. Here's a link that may be of help.

All a bit worrisome since I'm waiting for delivery of my Minox 35 MB right now, but these are certainly known issues w/ these cameras.

Oops, just realized I put this in the wrong forum , stupid newbie :).

Thanks Steve, I hadn't thought to check the battery as the meter still works. However, the needle doesn't move when the battery check button is pressed. It is a fairly new battery but the camera stopped working after my little bloke was playing with it in the back of the car on a road trip, so he may have drained the battery.

I'll try a new battery before I throw the camera away :D.
