Minty

In 'Beyond the Fringe', the '60s comedy routine, in the wake of the Great Train Robbery, there was a sketch about the Yard catching such criminals. It was decided that the criminal mastermind should not be called that, as the use of the word 'mastermind' undermined (sorry) the morale of the team. They proposed the term 'Mindemast'. Perhaps some corruption of minty would be less offensive but I would not want it.

I agree with Harry. 'Minty' is twee. Worse, it is a description that usually belies the very non-mint state of the item so described. I think mint is already a rather crisp, even pert word and any compound of it is to be avoided. I could tolerate nothing beyond mint-minus, or near-mint, descriptions which I have also found to be invariably inaccurate. Mint is mint. Period.

a vast sum of money, a king's ransom, millions, billions; a (small) fortune, a tidy sum, a bundle, a pile, big money, big bucks, megabucks.

brand new, pristine, perfect, immaculate, unblemished, undamaged, unmarked, unused, first-class, excellent.

Surely mint just means 'as made' ... no problem there!

Minty I certainly can't get my head around.

It's when they call something "Minty" but in the pictures or description you can see the wear marks, dent, surface scratches or engraving...

How about this one?

mint with 'scratches and marks.'

Me and a buddy of mine have a running gag on ebay lens auctions. We both have bought so many inaccurately described lenses that whenever I mention something I'm selling, he'll ask for the condiiton, and I'll tell him "it's the usual - mint with fungus."

Speaking of minty---another pet peeve: 'cleaning marks.'

hahaha... this reminds me of a EX+ LTM Summaron with a description of "UG Glass". It's almost as useful as "Mostly Mint"

I bought an EX+ LTM Summaron 3.5 with "UG Glass" from KEH last fall. It had internal haze. Sent it to Youxin to be cleaned and now I could sell it as LNIB (if I had a box that is). Won't sell it though - fantastic lens.

Rdtailor sea's comment about if he had a box reminds me of the following lament, "If we had some ham we could have some ham and eggs if we had some eggs". :D
