Mir with mystery lens..

So i was out antique hunting today and found a Mir Rangefinder in decent condition. I checked it through and sure enough it needed a CLA, 1/60th is pretty gummy, and 1/30th isnt much better.

I looked at the lens and couldnt understand a thing other than 5cm and F1.2.

I passed the camera by based off of its poor operation, but now im thinking about that lens. I cant find anything online about a russian 50mm F1.2 lens. It seems rare just based off of the fact i cant find anything on it. Or is it?

Does anyone know anything i dont?

It's probably 5cm 1:2, i.e. f/2. Jupiter-8.

Im going to go back tomorrow and take a closer look. The shutter was a little slow on the slower speeds, and im looking for a rangefinder i can clunk around with during the day. Im thinking of adjusting the cloth tension to try to bring the speeds back up to snuff. Either that or see how much a CLA is for the camera.

More likely that there's a typo or someone needs new glasses and it's marked 5cm 1:2 (with a colon) which would mean 5cm (50mm) f/2.0 and therefore quite possibly a Jupiter-8 though it could be a Jupiter-17 (a rather rare beast)

If you increase the shutter tension to overcome dirt or gummed up lubricant you will probably find the shutter will cap at the higher speeds. Then you might give up and sell it and then perhaps someone else will complain about Soviet quality control.

Just to second fanshaw's post, increasing the shutter tensions is not the answer for a camera that needs CLA. The best you can hope for is to postpone the inevitable. The FED/Zorki shutter does not need much tension to work properly if it's clean and properly lubricated.
