After a local CLA both of my Ps could use a yellow patch renewal, but clearly one is brighter than the other. Anyone had any success w/ a repairperson successfully doing this and how much did it cost? Also who do you recommend?

Thanks,
Bill

Not a practical repair. The half-silvered patch is applied to one prism, and then that prism is glued to another prism. Just about all the Canon LTM rangefinders use that configuration.

Nice thing is that the half-silvered patch is very well protected from the atmosphere and aging. Bad thing is that it's not practical to re-silver it. Between removing the cement, removing the silver, replacing the half-silvering (or golding), and re-cementing the prisms in proper alignment, it would cost too much.

Canon Rangefinder Repair

I recently purchase a Canon P on ebay at a decent price. Knowing that it would be far from being perfect, I did my homework and found a repair person in Marietta, Georgia.

The camera had the vertical and the horizontal rangefinder totally out of control, no shutter speed after 125 worked properlly, and a lots of dust inside, and some strange pin on the rewind mechanism...... a desaster.

But there was Mark Hama, after repair the camera is restore to its wonderful splendor, I can not be happy enough and I am in debt with this gentelman. Price was reazanable and the job was excelent.

I'm familiar w/ Mark--he did a CLA on my Yashica Lynx. However, he didn't perceptibly renew the patch as I requested so I was a little disappointed. Did he do a good job on your patch? Is it really a bright yellow?

Thanks,
Bill

Patch

Patch

My camera did not have a problem with the patch. He did some serious cleaning in the viefinder, and the frames lines appears brighter now.

I would reccomend you to ask him what the chances are that he can have the patch repair or not. For what he did to my camera i would day the guy have the knowledge requiered.

I also know a repair man in west Palm Beach, Fl but don have his number right now, I will post it as soon as I find it.

I suspect the only place that could do it would be someplace that can do their own silvering, and is known for doing re-gluing repairs in M3 finders. For instance, CRR Luton. But I don't know if they are interested in working on Canon RF's. It may not be cost-effective, either.
