Please forgive my ignorance, I'm jumping from medium format to digital 35mm. Here goes:

The R-D1 can take M and L mounts. Ok cool. From what I understand, M mount fits natively, L mounts with adapter. Cool. What exactly is LTM (thread mount yeah?). Is LTM = L mount.

Just trying to figure out what lenses need adapters. Also the Canon RF lenses... I'm pretty sure that's an LTM but then again, is that an L or M or something entirely different? 😕

And how about the Voiglander lenses... are they M mounts or LTMs? Cuz they don't need adapters, right? 😕

Oh, the Voigtlaender lenses, most of them are in LTM mounts, the exceptions being the 40mm Nokton and, I believe, the 35mm Nokton. All other ones you'll need to buy an adapter to use on M-mount bodies.

Of course, Voigtlaender also makes other mounts, but for your question let's just not make it too complicated and stick with the "Leica World". That would be it. 🙂

the rd-1 is a m mount camera.

m mount = bayonet mount
ltm = leica thread mount = screwmount = all the canon rf lenses

ok we're getting closer here 🙂

one question:

What is an L mount? (eg is it = LTM mount or is that something different)

ahhhh there we go. the source of all the confusion! 🙂

it's because the R-D1 lists as being M and L mount compatible... I've heard plenty of the M mount but never saw anything on the L, tho LTM and RF lenses could be found left and right.

all sorted now! many thanks!
