This is from the boston.com website. It is an airstrike in Libya. I wouldn't want to be standing around here:

I have to believe that was from a fixed camera. Unless that was a really long telephoto, I don't see how a photog could be standing. The overpressure should have knocked the person down and they couldn't get up in time for this photo. Otherwise, the photog got knocked down just after. Incredible timeing no matter.

I believe Tyler Hicks and John Moore are in the group so I wouldn't be too quick to mock this type of working methodology.

It isn't always that way. It just happens sometimes. Like Haiti, the soldiers toured the photojournalists that way for protection when the looting started. Except in Libya there is no protection, so you just stick together for safety. It happens even on city streets when covering spot news. I think a lot of people here have a seriously skewed idea of what photojournalists actually do for a living.

Tyler Hicks, Moore and Addario are indeed present. these people are indeed VERY intrepid and at the top of their game. i would echo newsgrunt's comment.

One wonders if street photography will evolve into something like this.

another astute point. those folks in Libya are working in a serious batch of danger. hostile government forces, no security and a whole boatload full of ordinance being tossed around daily. it would be very easy to get dead and i'd be scared *!@*less every second of the day.

You know, you guys are judging these photojournalists from "one" photo op. Give me a break . ****. No one knows the circumstances under which these guys took the picture. You know, it might have been one of those situations where you are told by people with guns not to move and to stand in a certain place.
Those who are quick to judge should get their boots on the ground and show us how it's done. By that standard, I am more than willing to cut these PJs a little slack.

Wasn't a fixed camera. Just a 40 year-old war PJ doing his thing. Goran Tomasevic.I have to believe that was from a fixed camera.

Good on him. After looking at it again, I think he was farther away than I first thought since it appears the cars still have their glass. Still quite a good catch photographically.

I'm sure Hicks and Addario can attest to how much more dangerous that theatre is than this one image might suggest. See yesterday's NY Times for an article about their ordeal.

All I know is about war time photography is that I would not do it. God bless those that do.
Off side, there is another thread about the new movie coming in April.... The Ban Bang Club. Looks quite interesting in the trailer.
