hey rffers
i am thinking of visiting and checking out the sights and sounds of one of the casinos in CT.
i just wanted to do a half day evening trip there (and eat at one of their buffets) at the casino.

i am not going to gamble.
which casino would make a better choice to check out the sights/sounds/decoration?
how is the buffet food there? (is it kind of like low quality or decent good ?)

suggestions appreciated.

well, I've only been to Mohegan Sun, once, for a WNBA basketball game. I suppose this could be interesting from an anthropological point of view. This place is really a world within a world, about as phony and plastic as any place could be. All sorts of fake fiberglass forests, etc, truly bizarre. The food we ate, at the basketball arena, was lousy and expensive. But I don't know about buffet restaurants. Not sure how they'd feel about people taking photos.

Well, you can not photograph in the casino areas. I am not sure about the rest of the facilities. I live about 30 minutes from both, and only have been there twice, not much of a gambler. (though I did spend one afternoon in the race book betting the ponies from tracks around the country while everyone else was donating money to the tribe in the slots and at tables, I ended up down $20 after 4 hours, and my share of free beverages)

Mohegan Sun is a more manageable, yet still huge facility. Foxwoods is a monster. If you are just coming for a ride to see the sights, you can actually go to both pretty easily and compare. They are close to each other and easy enough to get in and out of. One or both have American Indian museums and both have other non-gambling related activities. My next trip there will be to play one of the new golf courses that they have built, which are said to be the best in the state and maybe New England. We shall see, I hope.

People watching is fun. Go in the morning and see the unfortunate folks tied to their slots obviously who have been there all night, feeding the machines like zombies. Actually a little sad. I drive route 2 in CT every day and in the morning see MA and NY cars heading home and in the evening see them heading down to the casinos.
