Anyone out there know a thing or two about monitors?

I'm looking to spend up to $900US for a 22-24" display to use solely for image editing so it must be very good with displaying colour (I have a i-One Display 2 already.)

What are the specs I should look for?

What type of panels are best?

I am currently trying to learn the same types of things about external monitors. I have recently acquired both a Macbook Pro laptop and a Coolscan 9000 film scanner. There are only a few more things I need before I can start scanning my film and getting some images on the web and one of them is an external monitor.

After researching a little bit, I read some good things about the Dell 2209WA monitor being a perfect budget photography editing monitor. But I need to learn more about monitors before I make a decision. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
