Supposing you shoot monochrome film exclusively and you are going on a three week road trip, what gear (cameras, lenses, film) would you ideally take with you?

If I wanted to stay super light, I would take the Zeiss Ikon+35/1.2 Nokton. If I wanted to stay light, I would take my 2 M7's: 0,58x+28/2 Ultron and 0.85x+50/1.4 Summilux preASPH, plus a 90/2.8 Elmarit in my bag. If I wanted to be fully covered, I would take the above 2 M7's, add the Biogon 21/4.5 in my bag, and instead of the Elmatit, would take a Nikon FM3A with the Makro Planar 100/2. Plus a brick of Tri X.

A Nikon FM2n with 28,50 and 35-70 lenses, plus a Bessa T with 35 Ultron and 25 Skopar. Depending on the trip I would also consider a Nikon 70-150.

Kodak 400CN film.

If I was only taking one camera I would take the SLR.

Dead simple: Oly XA + Tri-X

A little more: M3 + 50 + Tri-X

A little more, pt. 2 (like meter/like wides): M6 + 28 + (35 or 50) + Tri-X

I am usually pretty happy with M3 + 35 + 50 in a small Domke bag. The M3 is all mechanical, bulletproof and has a great finder - perfect. I suppose an M2 has the same qualities, but I don't have one.

You really don't need more than one lens, but they're small so it's not a big deal to throw another one in the bag. But, more than two just means more to think about. When I think road trip I think of leaving worldly cares behind and living in the moment. One body, one lens, one film - see it and shoot it.

Travel Light (kiss) version : M4 (quicker loading over my M2) with a Summitar as a body cap and probably Summilux pre-asph, lenshoods. L308 with spare battery. 2 lens cloth's, brush, marker pen, cable ties. HP5+ and a battered Hadley.
That setup has been on a few trips, works for me.

That sounds like a great trip, I am sure you are going to come across alot of interesting people. It will be interesting to see how attitudes and personalities change in different areas and whatnot over the trip. Are you working to any sort of theme: street, snapshots, lanscape?

3 years ago I did just that to the UK (just over 2 weeks). I took my M6TTL and 15/4.5 CV, 24/2.8 ASPH, 35/2 ASPH, 50/2 and 90/2.8 "fat," as well as an SF20, all in a Domke F5 bag (it won't all quite fit, I have to choose the flash or the 15 on any given day). Since I was going to the UK, I took Delta 100, as it just seemed appropriate. I may have taken some Delta 400 as well, but I'm pretty sure it was Delta 100.

Just this past July, also 2.5 weeks in the UK, in a Domke F6 (larger than the F5), I took the same kit, but I now use a 50/1.5 CV (the 50/2 Leica may need repairs, again), and it all fits easily, along with a little umbrella, and space for a jacket. I took 20 rolls of 160NC and 5 of 400NC, so color this time. I also took a little digital P&S that I didn't take in '07, so I wasn't quite the purist, but it was handy for some days.

If I were going mono again, I might consider TMY-2, as it has such fine grain for a 400 speed film. When I took my GA645zi to Italy last summer, I took TMY-2, as it's perfect for the slower lens on the GA645zi.

TMY2 is what I have in mind (just like you, I like the idea of using a 'local' film). As a matter of interest, did you prefer your colour or mono results?

This is perfect.

I'm planning on M6ttl+50mm Cron and M7+35mm Cron +28mm Ultron for tight spaces. I could take some more kit but the general theme of the comments so far is to keep things simple. I definitely wouldn't take only one camera in case of a breakdown/accident etc. In my experience you need backup...
