More countries to worry about - photo laws

Amazingly stupid. Cameras are so small now you can hide it in a shirt button. Take pictures anywhere, anytime and no one will know.

Except if you then post them online and whoever is in the shot can take you to court for it (based on this law)

So if its for personal pleasure/use and not for sale/profit, its ok?

Greece has strict laws pertaining selling or profiting on people likeness and/or defaming or showing in a bad light unless the event is "newsworthy" and within context.

I'm surprised camera manufacturers aren't beginning to band together to protect their future profits. It's almost like the powers that be don't want a record of this time in history.

I'll note again:

[..]except see my point [..] if the phrasing is "to gain or profit". "Gain" does not require "profit"

And any half-competent lawyer can drag you into court, even if you've made no sale and taken no profit, under the "to gain" part. This is how the real zingers get into legislation with all-to-little scrutiny: people thinking that "law" and "commonsense" necessarily live in the same universe.

What triggers legislation like this? I've done my share of street photography and hate to see it. No more tourist pix too I guess. Are the going to arrest tourists and fill the jails?


Like I said, I've done my share but on the flip side I've seen several street photographers being a pain in the ass to folks. I've watched them stalking their prey. That's unnerving to people. Ok I know it's our rights but something had triggered this reaction so is it the PITA street shooter or celebs complaining. It's coming from somewhere.

The good side is it's impossible to enforce. The jails aren't big enough and there aren't enough cops. Just don't be a PITA to anyone.
