More stupid questions from a "Newbie"

OK, I am about to purchase some wide angle lenses for my R-D1.

What are you nice people doing about a finder for composing your images. I know that Leica makes a finder that goes in the flash shoe for 3 different focal lengths, but this would be for the 35mm format would it not. What abbout us R-D1 users who are delaing with the 1.5x crop factor.

I guess wides have such a large angle of view a lot of cropping comes into play but I would realy like to be a little more precise if possible. I know anything can be overcome.

You can always get a Nikon or Tewe Vari-Focal finder and dial in the focal length x1.5. It is a continuous zoom with marked focal lengths.

The TEWE goes out to 200mm, so it would cover a 135mm lens with the 1.5x factor.

Cosina-Voigtlander do a range of viewfinders specially designed for the R-D1's 1.5x crop factor. I have the 21mm D version, and I find it fine to use, and reasonably priced.

NOT a stupid question -- there are at least two REALLY stupid ones in the last 24 hours.

Yes, a TEWE or Nikon zoom finder will do very well: one was a copy of the other and I think Tewe came first. With 35-200 to play with you can even do a 135mm full-frame lens.

Incidentally, the accessory shoe was originally for an accessory rangfinder in the 20s; then for accessory viewfinders in the early 30s; then, much later, for flash. So it isn't really a flash shoe at all.

I am looking at everyones suggestions. Have emailed Camera Quest for their current inventory on the Cosina-Voigtlander R-D1 finders. They have stopped making them and I need a 21mm as I think this will be my next lens. 16mm will be after.

Have I said lately, I am loving my R-D1!

Just ordered the 21mm Voigtlander Viewfinder for my R-D1. You people are GREAT!

Now I need to buy the lens!
