Ian,
Thanks, I thought it would not be a problem with all 35mm Cron's. As your's is asph its obviously a fairly recent example. I'm wondering if its Cron's from a certain time period 1975 - 1985? or just the Canadian ones that give the problem? I am begining to think that its just the Midland, Ontario ones as these are the only ones I have seen with the problem. My 50mm Cron is approx 1975 but is from Wetzlar and this is fine. Perhaps Midland machined the Cams slightly differently?
"Incidentally, Epson UK now have my RD-1 with the intention of fixing the drunken framelines. I'll let this board know whether they are able to do anything about it short of replacing the camera (which I don't want them to do)."
I don't know if you registered your R-D1 in the U.K. but the owners club letter I got a few days ago says "This entitles you to a loan camera should your Epson R-D1 require service in its first year".
I think Epson in the U.K. as in the U.S. have been replacing R-D1's (note Phil's experiences) because they don't have servicing facilities here. Sangers who distribute the Voigtlander Bessa's are handling the R-D1 for Epson here but I don't think they can have much of a service facility for Bessa or R-D1 repairs either. The shutter failed on my friends R3A about a month after he brought it. He returned it via his dealer and it took over two months to get it back (in the end they gave him a new one).
So I think they must be returning all Voigtlanders and R-D1's to Japan. If you held out for the promised loan rather than a replacement perhaps it would be possible to negotiate keeping that one if it was perfect or wait for yours back if not.
