Hey, great photos.
Can you tell me a bit about the Fuji SP-1500 scanner? I've never heard of it before. For the life of me, I can't get scans that look as good as that from negatives with my Nikon 8000ED.

I believe that it's the scanning component of a Fuji Frontier mini-lab. Frontiers are mini-lab machines that process, scan and print negs (and digital files). It's something for a photo lab, not home use.

Colin,
Thanks so much for sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed your pictorial tour of that part of the world.
Sorry to hear about your scratched negatives, but C-41 negatives do seems to scratch easier. I had the same trouble till I took the time to talk to my local photo lab owner and explain that I shoot a lot of film and would be switching labs or to digital if the quality did not improve, and he would be losing my business. I have never had a scratched negative since. Might be worth your time... I would hate to see you migrate to digital.

Those Zeiss lenses sure draw pretty pictures.
Also, fine work with the Luminous Landscape essay. What other work do you have published online other than your flickr?

Hey, it seems to me that your Planar is much better than mine, as mine never takes such great photos
Just kidding.
I'm amazed and stunned by your images. I enjoyed this trip to China. Beyond photographic skills you have a fantastic sensivity to your subjects that makes your photos different.
You should make a gallery or slideshow of these pictures somewhere on the web to make it more comfortable to go through.
You will be famous. Keep up the good work.
Hah....famous....naw...dont care about fame, I just want to keep doing.
I see you are in Budapest, my friends wife is from there, I would give my M6 to spend two weeks wandering around that city....

I love the Zeiss lenses, always have, even the old "cheap" stuff has a little magic to it. I worked on that LL essay for quite a while and am very relieved to have it online finally
congratulations colin!!!
Thanks!

They are coming, I am currently working on a project which will contain a lot of high quality portrait style images shot on Provia 100f with my rangefinder cameras and excellent set of lenses. It may take a few weeks to get everything sorted (I am also in the middle of searching for a new job) and the scans and all that, but in the end I guarantee you all that I will add many images to this thread that will only make the Planar seem all that much more appealing. I have done work with the Zeiss lenses with slide film and the results are a lot different then what I get on negative film, but I realized I have never posted any shots, though most of them I cant because they were shot on jobs, so this next set of images which is my own project will show some interesting things indeed.

Lovely, lovely, lovely, Colin!
The pics have a wonderful look to them, almost like transparencies, and you have an eye for telling details.
What body are you using, BTW?

Sounds like what everybody in the rest of China says about Beijing.
.."chengdu copies everything chongqing does then claims it as their own and they all talk like they are gay" (no offense to gays, its a cultural/dialect thing that bugs chinese people about chengdu)

...the problem is I wish I could put the two cameras together with their strengths ....I want it all in one.
The lifelong quest for the one camera that will do everything. Sigh....!
