Moskva 2 CLA

Yesterday I have finally decided to give my landscape camera a service: it had release levers not working, broken spring return of the shutter, misaligned rangefinder, bulb mode not working and slow speeds way off. So far I've removed all lens elements, compensator arm, covers and got down to the actual shutter (Moment-1 its name, a Compur clone).

Many problems had a simple fix, but to the moment two remained: sticky slow speeds and misaligned RF. At this point I'll greatly appreciate some advice from people who've done similar work on Moskva or Super Ikonta cameras .

To treat slow speeds my plan was to unmount the shutter and give parts a bath in a solvent. Now the problem: how do I remove the shutter from the bellows? According to repair maunal for Moskva-5, there are 3 screws on the back of the shutter assembly (from the bellows side), but on my Moskva-2 I found only one visible - and taking it out didn't help. Any ideas?

Now, to calibrating the rangefinder. It seems that the focusing/retaining ring on the front element has slid off its initial position due to increased friction from all that grease on the treads. How can infinity point be determined again? Should the infinity point correspond to the front element fully screwn-in?

Thanks William: will try that when assembling the thing back.

I have a 1962 illustrated repair guide book for Fotokor, Moskva, Fed 1, Fed 2, Zorkis, Kiev and early Zenits in PDF format. However it is in Russian :)

OK, I managed to remove the anchor (slowdown) mechanism without unmounting the whole shutter assembly. It had one axis out of its socket, probably that was causing the problems with slow speeds.

I should mention that all the damage to the camera was commited by me in the age of 6 (this is my grand-grandfather's item). Now, once the RF/lens calibration is done the Moskva will be in its original shape :)

Thanks for the reference Paul.

OK, am done with Moskva. 10 hours total spent, everything seems to work fine. The RF alignment was actually the easiest part.
