guys, I love ya, but I gotta remind you that torture has been reaffirmed as illegal under the new justice department. The report specifically calls out the mentioning of low prices on beloved photo gear, just like what some of you are doing, as torture. You know who you are!

Just under $1000 for a DLSR body, but for film it is $125 many years ago. I like the $125 better than the just under $1000. But the best body/camera deal, for me, was the $75 for a RolleiflexT about 25 years ago.

Somewhat less than AUD$2,000 for a Canon 300D, some time after they'd first come out (so it had dropped to semi-affordable level). It has been superceded by more capable replacements - each of which cost less in nominal amount (so less again adjusting for inflation).

Come to think of it, though, my digital IXUS II cost nominally less - but hugely more in that it got me hooked on photography again. That hasn't been cheap (but has been a lot of fun).

...Mike

$15 each, including the lenses.

"Antique Store Find", this past Spring. Taken with a 1997 Nikon E3 Full-frame Digital Camera, 60mm/2.8 Micro-Nikkor. 1.3MPixels. $7,000 new.

Earlier this year I paid $1495 for an Alpa 6b with 50/1.8 Macro-Switar that is the most I ever paid for a camera. In 2007 I paid $1250 for a Rollei 3.5F and 1956 $428 for my Exakta which translated to $3889 2009 dollars. I won't ever again pay anywhere near these prices again.

a bit over $4,000 on an M8. i have no regrets (and am NOT pondering laying down another $7,000 on an M9.) at the time, i had been pondering an epson R-D1 (not a bad camera by any means), but my wife knew i really wanted an M8. tongue-in-cheek, she said, "why are you considering getting a typewriter? get the camera you want." :)

My M2 was $405 this past year, my t90 was $150 last year, and 2 years ago I paid $415 for a canon XTi with grip, 6 batteries, and 3 1gig memory cards.

Stuff I've rented/used is another story. We had some amazing zoom lenses that were something like 16-55mm at like with a T-stop of like 1.9, and then sets of primes that were T1.3. Would have loved to have had an adapter to put one of those on a still camera body.. but I guess it'd be extremely front heavy and probably snap the flange off. Oh well.

My Nikon D700. More than any Leica I have ever owned. Maybe that explains why it's the ONLY body I own at present.

(I will say it's also the best camera I have ever owned.)

$1,600 for the Hasseblad Xpan and then bought the centre-spot filter a couple of days later. Can't recall the cost of the Zeiss Ikon -- it wasn't as expensive as the Xpan.

Finally, about $1,500 for the Contaflex TLR, but it came with the f/2.0 50mm Sonnar and the 13.5cm Sonnar.

These days, my limit is about $25.

$5000 for a Sinar P2 with a couple extra rails, bellows and lens boards, price did not include lenses. I didn't use my money it was my company's.
