Fair Enough. i would have added an Over $100,000 category.

I found a receipt at work for a Beckman and Whitney framing Camera, capable of 1.6Million Frames Per Second on a strip of 35mm film. It used a Helium Turbine to spin a mirror. The receipt was from 1960. It was for $120,000. It was an SLR.

Rollei 6008I kit cost me $4000 in 1999. Of course the lens is very expensive on those cameras.

Coming in second and 3rd would be Canon 20D and Leica M6 TTL.

When I went freelance in the same day bought a Canon 1d and a 400mm 2.8 cost me £9999 which is $16,694 thats quite a lot.

Timely thread - puts in perspective that $7k+ so many are thinking of plumping down for a new M9.

Most expensive new body: ZI for just under $1,200
Used: R-D1 for just over $1,600

Average, inflation-adjusted, for everything in current use: just over $450

£2,070 for an EOS 5DII, but I did pay around £1,000 for a Bronica ETRSi in 1991, which is probably more once inflation is accounted for.

Around $7000 on my D3, though it went through the business, I had thought I'd be spending that again on a backup D3....thank goodness for the D700!

That was also when it was around the two dollars to the pound mark...seems like a long time ago now!

I'm glad I wasn't working when digi first came in, I remember seeing the prices of those Kodak bodies when I was still at college and thought I'd never be able to afford anything like that even if I did manage to get work as a photographer.

US$1,480 for an M6TTL + US$200 for flare-free optics install by DAG.
I regard both as a single payment.

$7,895 for a M6 0.72 Version 1 from that well known epay reseller. It was rare according to the seller, because it had no plastic film on the base plate like they normal do :D It was either that, or getting the even rarer 0.85 TTL for another two grand. :D

I paid £1600 (US$2600) for a mint Ebony 45S a few years ago. The only new camera I have ever bought was a Canon EOS1V - can't remember how much that cost me.

Most I've ever spent was $400 for a Leica CL. Since then the most I've spent is $250 for a Leica IIIf.
