hi,

i have some question about voigtlander M/L mount adapter.

i just bought an old elmar 50 mm f/2.8 from used market and buying a voigtlander 50/75mm M/L mount adapter to use this lens for my leica M bodies together.

in the box they provide a small paper notice about a lens that have an infinity lock cannot use this adapter:eek:

thats mean this lens cannot use with these adapter, or can use but have a limited focusing distance or it cannot use because will causing another problem?

if this adapter cannot use, what adapter can compatible with these lens?

i will use with camera body for M3 , M6 , and bessa R2

Thanks you.

The problem with the adapter is that the adapter will block the infinity lock from disengaging. You can either remove the infinity lock from the lens or get a Leitz M adapter. The Leitz adapter has a cutout along the bottom to allow for clearance of the infinity lock.

I-50 with Leitz M/LTM adapter

I-50 with Leitz M/LTM adapter

Even with the cutout on the Leitz 50 adapters, I have an I-50 that when screwed onto the adapter still has the infinity lock just past the cutout section towards the red dot.

However, I have not had any image issues with infinity by focusing as far as it will go, in fact it might be an even better match for infinity because of the LTM/M film to lens mm difference.

Would judicious application of a small round file at the appropriate spot on the adapter ring resolve the issue?

(I'm thinking of threading the adapter up onto the Elmar, snug, then scribing/marking the outline of the interference area of the INF lock, then removing the ring from the lens, and carefully filing away until sufficient clearance is provided...?)

that should do it

that should do it

the reason I have not, is that I think my adapters are more valuable than the lenses :D and in addition, the closeness to infinity focus has yielded fine photos, so I've never missed anything by not being able to focus on infinity with my LTM lenses (that don't inf. lock) on my M mount bodies.

Will take an awful lot of filing, Frank. Besides, the vise you'll need to use may damage the adapter.

Must be the antique car mechanic in me speaking-up...

I know the C-V adapters aren't cheap, but don't all LTM lenses 50 mm and shorter have the focusing lever with Inf lock plunger ?

(And now I'll go to the bathroom and stick a bar of Lifebuoy in my mouth for suggesting such a drastic measure... :-/ )

Most, Frank, but not all: for example, I have an I-61 L/D and a J-3 without. You do believe in drastic measures, don't you? Soap is said to be bad for the buccal multi-coating, never mind its effect on the taste buds.

Maybe there is something I'm missing here, but I also have a LTM Elmar 50/2,8 and I can't see how the infinity lock could interfere with an M mount adapter. As far as I can see the infinity lock doesn't even come close to the adapter

Will I be able to use a Voigtländer adapter despite the warning (about lenses with infinity locks) that comes with the adapter?
