A very cool new feature and Mac OS X .8 Mountain lion is the dictation and speech function that you can find in the system preferences. Take all off your time by exploring the over 200 features as described in this link: http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html
I created this message with the dictation and speech function![]()
That's cool. Hadn't played with it yet but I typed this message with it

Been using this since beta. It is awesome. I am no teenager tho!
So iMessage for iOS users and Google Voice + GrowlVoice for others, I can do all SMS from my Mac and it's a major time saver.
Oh and in case someone missed it, you can access Notification Center by 2-finger left swipe from right edge of trackpad.![]()
Running without any issues on my 2011 MBA/13". Things seem to run a bit faster, but I can't be bothered doing any benchmarks.
Sug: This is OT, but since you mentioned Google Voice, do you or anyone know of a chat/voice client (not web) for Mac that can integrate a (cheapish) SIP carrier, so as to tie a DID to the soft phone capability? The DID I own is a CDN number -- 905 area code.

As I use Nikon Scan to run my 8000ed I need an OS that runs Rosetta and so it's Snow Leopard for me.
Same here for Minolta DS Dual4 Scan Utility.

Well, threw caution to the wind and first updated my headless Mac Mini. Piece of cake and no issues, but it was already running Lion. Just had to update a few non-Apple apps. That was last weekend, so now tonight I updated my 2009 Macbook. That was just as easy. No issues running Aperture so far. Only bummer is that I can't AirPlay my Macbook screen to my AppleTV (not supported on my hardware), but then I already had AirParrot which seems to work very well. I have many iOS devices, so the continuation of moving OSX apps in that direction is great as far as I'm concerned.

I know how you feel. My original iPad, only two years old, as well as my iPod Touch did not make the cut for iOS6 due out this fall. And Mountain Lion is likely the last go around for my early 2009 Mac Mini and late 2009 Macbook.
But I am lusting after a new Macbook Pro with SSD

Thats the problem with hardware that lasts a long time... Its like insisting that a old car would be as fast / safe / efficient as a new car.
If you want to use the latest bells and whistles you have to upgrade. This doesn't mean that your current computer is not functional. Some people are still running 10.4 and have no problems. Other than having to use a different web browser to "enjoy" some website...
This week I will rejuvenate 3 white Macbook's (2008) for a client. Replacing the failed hard drives (normal wear and tear) with SSD drives and upgrading the memory to 4GB. Clean the inside, load 10.7 on them optimize the system and they will be lightning fast laptops with many more years of use in them.

my white macbook is running fine and does what i need it to do.
when it dies i will upgrade but likely not before.
i'm still using the original ipad though getting the new one is a great temptation!

I look at it this way ... when I have a new device and it happily accepts the latest upgrades, I say "Yea, what a fortunate lad I am!"
When I have an older device and it can't be upgraded but still is working just fine, I say "Yay! I'm fortunate to be getting so much mileage from this thing AND saving money!"
I win twice!

After eight years 8 years you certainly deserve a new MacBook Pro.

VueScan works fine on my MacMini with the Microtek ScanMaker 8700, but it makes the Minolta scanner and VueScan software freeze when focussing before scanning.
I've been all over it. Not a d*mn thing to do about it.

That's an interesting bug. You should file it.
I've run the latest VueScan build (can't remember the number at the moment) to drive my Epson 2450 flatbed/transparency scanner, the HP 6500 multipurpose scanner, and the Nikon Coolscan V ED, running on Mountain Lion. No problems at all.

I looked into upgrading my Macbook and my iMac to Mountain Lion, because my Snow Leopard OS-X 6.8 does not support the use of RAW files with my Leica D-Lux 6, with Aperture. Neither does my Lightroom version 4. But Apple's own site for downloading Mountain Lion has a number of complaints from users who said their iMac no longer runs right after going to Mountain Lion--there are some complaints in this present thread, as well.
I'm thinking of staying with the tried and true Snow Leopard. I may even dump the D-Lux 6. My D-Lux 3 and 4 work fine in RAW with Snow Leopard. I think the D-Lux 5 is RAW compatible with Snow Leopard. Maybe I'll get that instead.
Edit (November 2015): I still have not changed a thing since I wrote this. I'm still reluctant to risk changing to Lion or Mountain Lion. The good news is that the JPEGS out of my D-Lux 6 are so good, I don't feel the need for RAW.

I've got a 15" MacBook Pro Model 3,1 which makes it a late 2007 model. I'm running the latest OS with no issues. I'm running Lightroom 5 shooting a Leica ME and uncompressed DNG RAW files.

I have just recently gone back to Snow Leopard from Mountain Lion on my 2010 MBP, due to stability problems. Seems to be an issue with nvidia graphics card driver on my particular model.

(Update) I've decided to stay with Snow Leopard. The JPEGS are very good out of my D-Lux 6 and X10, so why not use them? They take up less file space anyway.
Actually, I can download RAW files from my X10 to Lightroom 4. But I had a major problem when trying to convert a RAW file to a DNG in Lightroom and transfer the file to Aperture. I managed to do that with just one photo. After that, all the rest of the photos in Lightroom now are marked, "The file is either missing, or is offline." This, even tho the photo still shows up in Lightroom.
Feh. Aperture for me; JPEGS if need be.
Edit: I didn't know enough to keep all my LR files in one folder. Now it should work better. BUT: I still prefer Aperture. And I have not changed from Snow Leopard, owing to reports of problems with Lion and Mountain Lion when running Aperture.
