Just wanted to post a quick thread on how I mounted an Industar-37 (300/4.5) with Packard shutter to a Szabad 5x7 camera, with the help of 21th century technology: 3D printing!

Since I didn't want to sacrifice my only lens plate for this project, I also printed one of those. I made a 80mm hole to friction mount the lens to the board. It's very stable on the ABS plastic!

For the shutter, I made a short pipe with a plate on the end. The pipe goes over the lens, and the plate attaches to the felt backed shutter.

For now I've only got it attached with some zip ties, but I intend to get proper screws..

It's a very easy construction to design, and it's fairly cheap to print. I used the free software 123Design by Autodesk, and had the parts done by a guy on 3dhubs.com - which is like Uber for 3D printing!

Questions, comments, suggestions?

Very nice! These Packard shutters are really cool. Something that might be necessary for ultra-large-format photography. Whats the image circle size of that lens?

I checked out 3D hubs site and it looks good. From the costs, ShapeWays might be better, however. I've also found them to be very good.

Any other projects you are working on? Now that I've been 3D printing camera parts, I've got loads of ideas...

VERY nice, looking forward to seeing some scans from your shots in the future!

I have a aperture-less 200mm 5.6 Minolta reproduction lens that I handcrafted onto a lens board for the Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic 4x5, but I have issues with correct focus on ground glass vs film that I need to sort out once I feel better... 😱

I think it only covers 5x7 at infinity, maybe 8x10 at portrait distance..

Not currently working on any other project, to be frank I've blown my camera budget for this year several times over!
I used to have a really nice triplet lens for my 4x5 cameras, and would love to have one for the 5x7 as well, so I'll probably print a similar design in the future. Will definitely do a price comparison with shapeways! Thanks!

The speed is a really nice camera, hope you get it sorted! Kind of regret selling mine, but there were just to many cameras!
