Hello,

I am just wondering. Have any of you guys actually got the MP finder upgrade for your M6/M7? I am thinking about getting the upgrade but I am wondering if any of you already got it and if it is worth the money.

i have 2 m7s that came with it already and one m-6 that is older and needs it... i can tell the difference.... in certain light.. much easier without the 'whiting out' of the patch. You can get it done at DAG ( great leica camera repair guy..) and it will be less money than having Leica do it.

I read on some other forums DAG can do it for less money. But I am in Canada so DAG is kind of hard. My M7 is an earlier one with serial start at 27xxxx so it does not have the upgrade, so is my M6. Maybe I should have the upgrade on the M7 first and see. I am just wondering if any other of you guys think it is worth it because it is quiet expensive.

When DAG did a CLA last fall on my M4-P I had the MP upgrade installed. No more flares! Well worth the cost!

I am relatively new to Leica as I have had my M6 for only a few months. Right now I don't see the need. When I do send it in for a CLA I probably will have the upgrade done, but that is a few years away. I am a firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." So, unless I am limited in my photography by the flare at some time, I will sit tight.

Hmmm I think Rover is right. I do see the focusing "white out" sometimes but I may be able to get by for now and just have it done when I need a CLA. I called DAG already and it will cost me $165. And Don say I should not have any problem with customs if I indicate on the custom form it is for camera repair. I never send a camera from Canada down to the states for repair so I think I was concerned about the customs a bit, too...

Could not tell you about the upgrade but I have sent two cameras to DAG for repair/overhaul and everything went smoothly. He is right about the customs form.

Like others here, I had DAG install the flare-reduction parts in my M6 TTL 0.85 late last year. It was certainly worth the money, as the 0.85 TTL probably has the worst flare problem of the post-M4 models. With the kit installed, it flares about as much as my old M2, i.e., not much @ all (but not truly flare-free like the M3).

My M6 is a 0.85 version and I was thinking if I want to have the viewfinder upgrade I will probably have it done on the M6 first. And maybe wait a bit more for the M7.

Bob,

Just out of curiosity, which cameras did you send for DAG? And I just need to put on the custom form "Camera for repair" at where the item description is? Thank you Bob.

Not until I started shooting with my M3 did I realize how bad the VF of my M6TTL flares.

I'll ask Don Goldberg to do the job on my cameras later, though... for now, I learned to live with it.

The first thing I would do is go to your local Canada Customs office and fill out a card titled IDENTIFICATION OF ARTICLES FOR TEMPORARY EXPORTATION listing each item you intend to send for repair. That is the same card you fill out when you go on holidays outside Canada and take a camera with you. With this card filled out you will be able to get your gear back into Canada with little hassleshould there be any questions. Do not send this card with the package. I sent my package via parcel post and the post office had me fill out a form that declared what was in the package, it's value and I noted also that the items were for repair. The rest of the postal form has the usual from/to areas. You get a copy, one goes on the package and the Post keeps one. That was all I did on my end. The turn around is long when it crosses the border so you have to be patient if you go that route. I sent LTM leicas to have their beam splitters replaced and a CLA. Kindermann Canada does not do beamsplitter replacement. Also had an old Elmar 50/3.5 cleaned of haze.
