Jorge,

That's great news! Congratulations on getting the MP. That's one I too would like to have, but were I you, and obviously I'm not, I wouldn't give up my M6 just yet. Make sure the MP meets your needs. There have been some problems reported on Photo.net with the MP. If you have to send it in for warranty work you'll want to have that M6 handy. Of course, I truly hope that you experience no problems what so ever.

Good for you. I'll have fun bouncing my Kiev 5 shots off of your MP shots ...:D

Congratulations, Jorge!
Let us know how the MP feels and handles...

BTW, any details about the M6 you're parting with, like the VF magnification (.72, .85), etc?
Price?
You can pm me....

Jorge, at one time I found myself with two Leica bodies... and felt the "need" to sell one in order to finance the other.

Well... that was in December 2003. I decided to give myself a nice Christmas present and kept both. Now, when I travel or go out on a shoot, one is loaded with B&W and the other with color. I use a 'cron 50 on one body, and the other sports a Hexanon 35. The latest member was a 'cron 90. Sure, I'm still in debt, but heck, I'm very happy too!

In short: keep the second body. Both the MP and the M6 are, in fact, the same camera. Probably the only difference is the direction in which the shutterspeed dial turns, but then, I think the ones that have it turning the same way are the M6TTL and the M7.

In any case, that's my experience or happy-ending story. Congratulations on the MP!!

I still haven't figured out why the MP exists. What's wrong with the M-7? My understanding is the the MP is mainly a re-incarnation of an older model. What is the reason for prefering the MP over the M-7?

There had been some dissatisfaction with the build quality of the M6 series, from what I hear, including a simplification of the viewfinder optics that resulted at times in glare obscuring the RF spot. The MP was billed as a return to M2/3/4 quality and non-glare RF. The RF improvement raised consumer demand to add it to the M7 too, and it was done. Retro is "in" now, so the MP designers even fit it with a rewind knob like the M2/3 rather than the crank adopted in the M4. For some, this may be a bit too retro, but others like it!

It (glare obscuring the RF focus rectangle) has happened to me once, but it was bad when it happened. I couldn't see a thing. When I get my M6 CLA'd in a year or two I'll get the MP "conversion" done at the same time I think.

Some people like the older models more than the newer ones. There are plenty of members here with LTM cameras and M2/M3/M4/"classic" M6 cams and the MP gives them the opportunity to own a camera that is built like the older models yet is brand-new with all the advantages that entails. I too would prefer an M7 but I can certainly understand the attraction of the older Leicas. To each his/her own. :)

When Frank is given a choice, I want one too! :D I'd take the M7 just for the AE feature, but I'd miss that nice rewind knob.

You can order the MP "ala carte" with the newer M4 style rewind crank if you wish. I think my next one will be an MP, black paint (of course some rich relative will have to die first, and since I don't have any rich relatives I may be waiting awhile).

Jorge, And you did not get TWO! That is a great price! Maybe KB should do more than advertise their banner here, like post on the For Sale section!

I saw a Nikon M Synced FOR PARTS go for over $1,600!
