Finished the one camera/one lens project so put the M2 away and got my MP to take a few shots and the shutter jammed. Nothing I've done will budge it so it's back to Leica next week unless somone has a miracle cure out there?

Its was purchased in 2006 and mint when I got it in May. I've put about 50 rolls through it and its been great so wasn't expecting this failure.

Its beautiful so I'll forgive it but I'm go to miss while its away - not a good start to the photographic year.🙁

i think the only thing to do is fire the shutter periodically on your leica m cameras.....someone think that recent leica (m7 & mp)have sometimes shutters problems because many camera was built in germany and ASSEMBLED in portugal......I hope you'll find a good repair service!ciao

Anybody who thinks this is an idiot. Leica has had a plant in Portugal for years and has been producing parts for the M series cameras, and other Leica products, for as long. Final assembly for the MP, M7 and M6 is/has been in Germany.

Chill Out

Chill Out

Park the name calling outside the forum, it is rude and gives off a negative vibe to the discussion.

To the OP: If you have film in the camera remove it and make sure there are no fragments of film kinked or jammed under the top guide rail or between the shutter curtains and the body casting. I've read that little fragments of film can cause damage to the shutter blinds so be careful...

My bad karma seems to have been passed on to this thread real fast - calm down folks.

I took peter n's advice and gave the inside a closer inspection. I did find a piece of ripped film in the take up spool and its internal spring was distorted so I sorted this out. I then tried the rewind again and decided to apply a bit more pressure praying it wouldn't make matters worse. It took only a little more and it suddenly freed up and the shutter began firing again. This can't be normal in a high precision mechanical device can it?

Seems Ok now so I'll put some film through in the next couple of days and hope it turns out fine and then forget the whole thing happened.

My MP is no longer jammed and back in the game.😀

ditto. This needs to be your first step before sending to Leica. How well was the film loaded in first place? Camera should be exercised on routine schedule. good luck.

Debusti, read your response to the original question. Do you honestly believe that Yammerman's MP jammed because certain parts were made in Portugal?

Jim B.
I wrote that people said that leicas had problems with parts or assembled parts built or assembled in portugal I!msure they have fixed it but there were problems! I do not know if his camera or parts of it were from portugal or not! But The problem is that you told me idiot 😡 ho do you dare?????

Looks like 2009 is off to a great start. A guy has a problem and:

1. He is deemed an idiot.
2. The individual who called him an idiot is called an a-hole.
3. Portugal was dissed (?).

Let's hope this gets better. Last year was almost too much with threads that degenerated into mudslinging.

Here's hoping for a great New Year,

Bob
