An XKE is enchanting. Nothing else really like it. As with several British cars, it embodies 'sports car' as few others can.
I would think of the x100 as an MX-5: competent, if not excellent, but directly styled after something earlier (the great, deadly Lotus Elan). Good writing.

A friend had a little Nikon D40 at a party last night and looked pretty comfortable for the three hours he carried it.
Funny thing is about dslrs. I see guys complaining about the small sized ones all the time. They say hand cramping is a problem.
I would like a GF1 or 2 sized camera with built in evf or ovf that I could carry in my pants pocket.
Funny you mention this, because my co-worker said yesterday that one of the things that has put her off a Canon 7D is the size and weight of the camera. She said it's too big for her hands and simply too heavy.
I don't think she would like a Nikon D700 or D3 or the Canon 1D or 1DS.

The best camera is one that still works!
Ergonomically my D700 fits my hands perfectly ... aside from the weight I find it more comfortable to shoot with over a two hour period than I did my M8. DSLR's may be a little complex in some areas but once you have the controls tailored to your needs and their positions memorised there is usually no diving into menus while shooting if you need to change something.
If Nikon ever jump into this market that Fuji seem to have created I'll be interested to see what their approach may be regarding camera controls!

Ahh the memories !. My very good mate had a XK120 then an E type which some low life recently torched, my god some vigins ceased to exist çause of them in the 60's. I had a long love/hate relationship with Landrovers on the farm till japansan took over. I always said when faced with a diabolicaly designed device Haa! an escaped designer from Solihull (LR home) sorry about the LR home spelling, to lazy to goto the workshop and look at my pile of original LR service manuals.
I now feel in the mood to have a look at my Kiev 4 shutter ribbon ? naah !

Any Americans remember the Sterling -- a sedan that was a joint venture between Range Rover and Honda? It was made in the late 1980s, I think.
At the time, I remember reading a review of the car in Automobile magazine. They liked the car and felt it was luxurious, but while they had the car, interior trim was falling off, and several parts had come loose.

For me, the appeal is the viewfinder. No other digital camera (that's not crazy expensive) has a nice "rangefinder-esque" viewfinder.

Q. "Why do the Brits drink beer at room temperature?"
A. "Lucas also makes refrigerators."
OK, enough of the wise guy...I was lucky enough to be in Old Blighty last week (London and York) and enjoyed every minute...and every ale, room temp or otherwise.

Your write up sounds a lot more appropriate to Leica cameras than The Fuji X100. At least the Fuji is only $1,200. Leica M8s are $2500 used and completely unreliable!

"I don't. I think it may well be one of the best "enthusiast" travel cameras ever made, but no matter what anyone tells me, I know at its heart is one of those really awful non-apple style menus that I just cannot make any sense of. "
Do what I do, ignore them. I use it fully manual, never need to ook at the menus. In fact, they could get rid of the screen for all I care.

Bless you. My sentiments exactly. Love my X100 and use it in full manual.
