Sign of the times, Bradford, a city 40 minutes from where I live, is home to the National Museum of Photography Film & Television it emerged yesterday the name is being changed to the Media Museum!!......... Media Museum!! What a good idea!.................they could take the opportunity to re-develop one of the galleries into a larger coffee-shop and bloody merchandising centre at the same time, to enhance the interactive experience of a visit!

Media Museum is shorter than National Museum of Photography, Film and Television I suppose but is a bit inaccurate as they don't seem to include print media in their collection. You can guarantee that there'll be a new, "improved" gift shop in any museum makeover these days. I've lost count of them at the V&A and the BM.

Well change it to Photo Museum then; Media Museum….what’s that? Tribute to Rupert Murdoch, yes the V&A’s going that way too

"Mind-Rotting Crap Museum" would also be shorter than the original, and more accurate than the new name. Catchier, too. I can't understand why I never achieved much success in marketing...

Hey, does anyone remeber the old V&A advertising campaign "A great cafe with a museum as well"? Ahead of its time, I tell you :bang: :bang:

the collection is very good actually, it’s just getting harder to see it with that interactive detritus scattered around

My guess is that the brother-inlaw of the president of the MM needed some printing business to pay for his wifes gifts this season (sister of the president). So the best way to get new everything, change your name to something cool and new, no questions asked.

That's heartbreaking. I've been away in NZ so I missed that snippet.
Mind you, if they're going to 'improve the visitor experience' they might get rid of that shrieking witch thing that goes off every 10 seconds. Interferes with my buying yet another Erwitt tome, that does.

well one bit of good news recently is; it looks like Camera Exchange/Pro-Am on Manor Row are putting in a second printer to cope with the demand, reassuring I thought!

My current favourite shop.
PS, I wonder if they'll have to re-tarmac the pavements in the underpass outside the museum as the old name is stencilled in...
