Musing on my lens line up...

Wasn't quite sure where to put this post; it's not especially "technical" nor is it about a specific brand...

Mods, if I made the wrong choice, I'm sorry!

Anyway.

I find my self trying to decide whether or if I should part with two of my short-tele lenses.

I have recently got a CV 75mm, I have had for a long time a Jupiter-9 that works well on my Bessa, and I have a '37 vintage, un-coated 9cn Elmar. That I had CLA-ed last year by Sherry Krauter so it is an excellent user.

They do sort of cover the same kinds of photos.

The simplest thing would be to keep all three and just use which ever appeals at any given time but because I work away from home about ten months of the year, inevitably the two I leave at home will be the two that I'll miss🙄.

So, to help me clarify my thoughts/feelings about this:

What would y'all do? Sell two and stick with one? Keep all three and get a bigger bag? Something else?

Any advice appreciated, folks.

Take the same picture with all 3 and use the results to help you decide what to do.

It depends.

I photograph lots of people, one person and various other groupings using a few lenses. What do you primarily photograph?

If you don't need the moola it sounds like you should consider keeping all of them. You said in your memo that the lenses you left home could be the ones you may need. How about if you sold those lenses and you need them?

Just a thought to help.

I can tell you what I did... I had a J-9... until I bought the CV 75mm. It's my go-to lens. I love it. I also have a Summicron 90, but the CV 75mm is getting most of the mount time now. I'm sure the Elmar has it's own "look," but for a modern lens, that 75mm is smokin'.

Yep, sell the 90s. I won't part with my summicron, but just picked up a 75mm Summarit and the size, weight and focal length are perfect.

the cv 75 is such a nice lens...sharp, small and light...an all round winner.

never used the others...but a 90 is a touch more specialized...i used the 75 much more than a 90...

After some time thinking about it, I am keeping the 75 and letting the other two lenses go.

ive used all three and if i had one to keep itd be the cv75. i love the rendering both in color and b&w, and the sharpness is second to none. what i did was sell the jupiter. i kept the elmar 90 just in case i wanted either a little more throw or a more vintage look.

I made almost the same decision; I decided to sell both the Elmar and the J-9.
I may regret this but neither are especially hard to find if I want 'em again.
The CV 75 is very nice to use and I don't expect I'll miss the other two very much.

If you have a nice uncoated Elmar 9cm, I'd suggest keeping it. It's not only a rather different focal length, but its rendering qualities will be very different compared to a modern Voigtländer 75mm f/2.5.

True enough about the different rendering. But, to be honest, that look doesn't thrill me as much as it once did...
And the 9cm field of view is different than the 75's but I'm not afraid to crop should I need to.

Somewhat surprisingly, after 600+ views, the Jupiter was the lens that folks were interested in. That has found a new home and I'm just going to keep the Elmar.
Not a bad thing. I would have missed that lens so it's just as well.
