My 1 week old M9 crash :(

Most women tend to prioritize their children over material possessions, so I'm betting she'll forgive you for letting go of the camera instead of the baby. Even though the M9 will have to go back to Germany to be repaired at your expense whereas there's probably an ER within 15 minutes of home that would have accepted your health insurance, I think you did the right thing.
 
I dropped a nice M7 some years ago and my wife was with me.
When I sold it she regretted it and argued that when I dropped it we were having a nice week end and that the dent in the camera was actually reminding her that nice moment !

I am appreciate all the commends from you guys, wow, so many of them and i read them all, feeling much better now
I actually dont want to make a big deal out of it, i was just curious if anybody actually in the same shoe and have it repair, then let me know the cost and the experience... If i send it in for repair and it would cost less than 400-500, i would do it to buy the joy/enthusiatm back for ..... At least some more time until it crash again 🙂 because its just too soon and i feel guilty about it...
Part of it, i am a part time (or wanna be) leica collector, i expect everything must be "mint" condition, i am now realize that m9 will never can be a collector item 🙂

Paint on M9s isn't all that strong, anyway. If you use it, it's gonna get scratched. Mine's scratched, and the bottom plate has some brass beginning to show, and I've only had it a few months.

I'd just like to see how much damage were all discounting here. If Sonny's going to be physically ill every time he looks at the camera...

Reminds me of when we moved into our new house 8 years ago. A hail storm came through and banged up the gutters. The gutters worked, but of course we had to have them replaced, the house was just weeks old. :bang:

...then there are problems here that have nothing to do with damage on a camera, and that we shouldn't involve ourselves with. Things get used, and they show it.

Come on, a camera is meant to be lived... You did choose the M9 over the Rolex... One is a jewel, the other is a tool...

Or maybe that your intention is to wear it not put some wear on it ;p
 
Sorry BUDDY! but at least it's all working. (YOu have a great wife btw!)

I would say, get a case and let it be. It adds character, and it might be a reminder forever to be careful in the future. As others said, it will brass inevitably.

Man, that hurts.

To commensurate, 10 years ago, my bride and I purchased our first car together. Not a month later I couldn't believe my eyes when I stand there looking at the hood and roof of the car full with pockmarks (dents) from a hail-storm the night before.

Today, we still drive that car, we never fixed the pockmarks. And interestingly no one looking at the car believed me that the car has hail damage until I showed them up close.

Moral of the story, keep using the camera. And don't forget to take a good picture of the chip and your son *together*.
Then one day when he grew up to be a doctor, show him that picture and have him buy you a brand new M20 (or whatever is the latest that time). 😀

I've now had three cars damaged by hail here in Brisbane ... all were less than a year old. The first two were repaired through insurance and the last, my current ford ute, I just couldn't be bothered worrying about it!

It's murphy's law! 😀

Y'know Keith,
We had a garage at home, but that fateful night, the car was outside because we are attending our church service.

I learned a good lesson about who the Real Boss (TM) is that time, and His name is not Murphy 🙂
 
That chip will end up easing your anxiety about future damage. Take a deep breath, count to ten, say what the #%$& , throw it over your shoulder, and go out and shoot.
 
Better to have dropped the camera than to have dropped your kid.

Now that you've got the first mark on the camera, the next one won't make you feel so bad. You might even look forward to more battle scars. If you had crack a lens, that would be worth fretting over. A mark on the body? No biggie in my book, but if you don't agree you've got plenty of good advice in this thread.

If is short. Enjoy it don't cry over spilt milk (or at least don't cry for very long) is my credo.
