My 1st rolls - I think I'm in love

Congratulations. There's nothing like seeing the prints from your first roll of film. Good work.

By the way, what film and lens were you using?

These two shots were with my Jupiter 8 50mm 2.0 and Artista 400. I had to go back to Henry's a second time to get 4 more rolls of it (8 in total). I tried a roll of Ilford XP2 at a friend's urging but I don't like it as much - too smooth for me. I'll upload some of those shots for comparison.

If you decide to develop your own, you can adjust the contrast through different development processes (agitation, mostly).

In fact, the lab is probably not tailoring the developer to the film at all. Unless you are using a B&W C-41 film, of course. I have never tried those, so I don't have a clue about them.

I just tried some Ilford XP2 C41 but I don't like it as much as the Arista. I've got to learn to do this myself.

It is easy and cheap. My advice would be to use a changing bag rather than a darkroom, if you don't already have a darkroom. Much easier to put away after you get the film in the tank.

A hint to maximize your M3 experience. Try to shoot what is impossible to do with a big SLR. Looking at the two first pic, you got it already!

Here are a couple of XP2 shots
