I've been searching for the perfect lens case for my various rangefinder lenses, and I think that I may have come close.

At my local outdoors store (Mountain Equipment Co-op), I found an unbreakable lexan jar made by Nalgene that was just the right size. A few aisles over, I found lint-free microfiber glasses bags, so I picked up one of those.

Drop the lens in the bag, put it in the jar, do up the lid, and there you have it: an unbreakable, waterproof lens case for $5. They're stackable, too. One possible improvement would be to line the jar in a layer of thin closed-cell foam.

I noticed that the jars also came in taller versions, perfect for something like a 75mm or 90mm. The one that I have fits my Serenar 50/1.8, my CV 35/2.5, and my FSU jupiters and Industars.

Right you are, Roman. A Canon Serenar 50/1.8, now with a lovely square Canon hood from Joe.

The best part is that I got this lens for $56 on eBay, with the warning that it contained fungus, but it was really just moisture and a camera tech cleaned it out for $15.

"Unbreakable"? Ha, just give one to any young male child (age 8 to 15). It'll be in pieces, post-haste ~ ; - )
But at least you'll have only lost $5 - LOL.

Great idea! It's perfect for my kayak or canoe camping trips. Too bad this was posted at the time I came back from my local MEC... ;) Next time.
