I just got my ebay yashica in the mail and it seems to work well except that the shutter does not always fire. I can wind the film and then if I fiddle with the camera too much, I'll hear a clink and then when I press the shutter release the shutter doesn't fire. It has a new battery in it and the battery light say go. I think it is the electromagnet in the shutter not holding a charge. Anyone have any ideas?

Any help would be great.
Thanks
G

Do you hear a "clunk" just when you begin to wind? That is normal.
No "clunk">>Pad of Death
You may have sticky blades, have you test every speeds?

Well, actually the arm that trips the shutter is not dependent on the POD for proper function. (Actually, the POD is attached to this arm and acts as an interface between the shutter rod and the electrical contact rod.) The POD may very well be bad, but it isn't causing this problem...

I've had this problem with a couple of other cameras, and I was able to fix it with a little lubrication. Parts of the shutter release linkage located in the lens were sticking, and causing the shutter to fire at various speeds, stick open, or not open at all. Opening the lens is not a difficult job if you have the tools (lens spanner and micro screwdrivers), and small amount of lubricant can be applied with a syringe.

What is confusing me is that it appears to work if I focus, set aperture and then wind. If I wind the camera then as I set the aperture I will wear a clink noise and then the shutter doesn't fire. Thanks for all your help. I'm going to look into checking the different shutter speeds.

Might not help you but...

I had a yashica with a similar problem. It was a mechanical issue. The shutter would only fire when the lens was not focused to infinity. The arm/pin going from the lens to adjust the rangefinder presses against a plate, this plate would be jam against the body and the shutter would not fire. Glued 2 or 3 layers of film on the backside of the plate and the problem was solved.

To reproduce the error: Cock the shutter, focus to infinity, press the shutter, the shutter does not fire, focus closer than infinity and the shutter will fire.
