My Biggles and Gimlet Collection

Can't say I've heard of either Biggles or Gimlet. Sounds sort of English. Is this something popular in Britain? Or elsewhere? It looks like a fine collection, worthy of a larger (and sharper) picture.

Biggles is England's answer to Black Hawk. Then there's Algy and Ginger.

Kinda like a Boys' Own Adventures about the exploits of a RAF pilot. Written by Capt. W.E. Johns, who was a RAF pilot. I guess only old fogies like myself would know; I used to read them in the 1960s and they helped me a great deal in my English lessons. 🙂
Google "Biggles" and there's quite a lot of stuff about him.

I was a definite 'Biggles' fan as a kid!

One of the funniest things I ever read was a risque version of a Biggles story done by the Monty python crew or someone equally insane.

I think it went something like:

Biggles rolled a joint while Algy undressed slowly in the dim glow of light from the instrument panel ...

... and so on, it was very funny! 😛

I've heard of a drink called a Vodka Gimlet. Could the book character be where the name came from? I confess that although I've become a rabid fan of British TV going back to The Avengers, the only modern British literary character I'm familiar with is James Bond.

My parents had that book, "The Brand New Monty Python Bok[sic]" which left a pretty big impression on me as a young boy.😀

The Python team slipped in quite a few Biggles references and gags along the way, from Cardinal Biggles in the Spanish Inquisition, Biggles Dictates A Letter and there may well have been one called Biggles Flies Undone...but now I sound like I know too much😛
