Shoot first, think later
If only I had the budget for this beauty! Oh, it hurts so bad to have "other priorities" ... This specimen (eBay item 280145349773) is priced at $4K
I think this possibly the sexiest camera ever made...

I love the Pentax SLRs but strangely this doesn't do it for me. After lusting for an LX for the longest time, I found the MX scratched that particular itch, and the LX (or the LX 2000) is no longer on my list.
The lens is interesting though. I have a black SMC-A 50mm f1.2 and it doesn't have a lens cap like that, or hood for that matter. Looks very nice and if it's the same optical formula as mine, it's a stellar piece of glass.

PENTAXES are shake machines with crappy foam strip mirror arrestors. I had trouble getting sharp pics even from a tripod. I had maybe 6 of them a long time ago before I knew better.
Lust for any Leica reflex except for R3, R4 R5. Original Leicaflexes are particularly nice, but hard to find in really good condition and they don`t take some of the superb modern Leica glass.

Functionally, it's an LX, which means it's arguably the best pro-spec 35mm SLR ever made by Pentax. The differences that make the LX 2000 attractive to Pentax afficionados are mostly cosmetic. There is one practical difference - the grip has a mounting point for the strap lug, so you can carry the camera horizontal with the grip fitted (on the standard models the grip has no strap-lug mount, so you can only mount the straps on the other end, for vertical carry).
I suppose the Leicaphile equivalent would be a rare MP model.

The lens appears to be built like one of the Limiteds rather than the normal A series construction. The cap looks a lot like the one on my 77/1.8.
I'd rather like an LX but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to justify the expense either, especially given the likelihood of needing to pay for maintenance before even using it. I have an ME Super (x2) already and one of these days I'll get an MX to satisfy the silly need to have an all mechanical SLR.

I dunno about that... I got a plain LX from ebay a few months ago, no CLA, loaded with it film and went a shootin' my daughter's indoor (poor light) karate show - very few blurry pics (mostly lack of skill on my part) and most looked better to me than the ones I took with my DS. My LX is loved just a bit more than my M6 and holds a steady 2nd place in my heart right after my Contax G2
The LX 2000 is just eye candy that I lust after ...
